(1) The director is:

- Board: means the Board of the Utah Geological Survey. See Utah Code 79-3-102
- Department: means the Department of Natural Resources created in Section
79-2-201 . See Utah Code 79-1-102 - Director: means the director of the survey. See Utah Code 79-3-102
- Executive director: means the executive director of the department who is appointed under Section
79-2-202 . See Utah Code 79-1-102 - Person: means :(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Survey: means the Utah Geological Survey. See Utah Code 79-3-102
(1)(a) the executive and administrative head of the survey; and(1)(b) designated the state geologist.
(2) The director’s qualifications shall include:
(2)(a) graduation from a recognized university; and
(2)(b) demonstrated competency in:
(2)(b)(i) the science of geology; and
(2)(b)(ii) administration.

(3)(a) The director administers the survey for the benefit of the public.
(3)(b) A person may not call upon or require the director or his associates to enter upon any special survey for the benefit of that person.
(4) The director, subject to review by the board and approval by the executive director of the department, may initiate cooperative agreements with private companies or parties or state or federal agencies to carry out the provisions of this chapter.
