(1) A person who discovers any paleontological resources on privately owned lands or on lands owned or controlled by the state or its subdivisions shall promptly report the discovery to the survey.
Terms Used In Utah Code 79-3-506
- Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.
- Excavate: means the recovery of critical paleontological resources. See Utah Code 79-3-102
- Paleontological resources: means remains of prehistoric life pertaining to the natural history of the state. See Utah Code 79-3-102
- Person: means :(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. - State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Survey: means the Utah Geological Survey. See Utah Code 79-3-102
(2) Field investigations shall be discouraged except in accordance with this chapter.(3) Nothing in this section may be construed to authorize a person to excavate for paleontological resources.
