Rhode Island General Laws 27-71-2. Purpose – Legislative intent
(a) The purpose of this chapter is to establish a framework for insurance market conduct actions, including:
(1) Processes and systems for identifying, assessing, and prioritizing market conduct problems that have an adverse impact on consumers, policyholders, and claimants;
(2) Market conduct actions by a commissioner to substantiate such market conduct problems and a means to remedy market conduct problems; and
(3) Procedures to communicate and coordinate market conduct actions among states to foster the most efficient and effective use of resources.
Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 27-71-2
- Commissioner: means the "director of the department of business regulation" or his or her designee. See Rhode Island General Laws 27-71-3
(b) This chapter does not apply to entities regulated by the office of health insurance commissioner under chapter 14.5 of Title 42 (“The Rhode Island Healthcare Reform Act of 2004 — Health Insurance Oversight”) or any insurer licensed only in the state of Rhode Island.
