Terms Used In Indiana Code > Title 9 > Article 22 - Abandoned, Salvaged, and Scrap Vehicles
- Clerk: means the clerk of the court or a person authorized to perform the clerk's duties. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Donee: The recipient of a gift.
- Escheat: Reversion of real or personal property to the state when 1) a person dies without leaving a will and has no heirs, or 2) when the property (such as a bank account) has been inactive for a certain period of time. Source: OCC

- flood damaged vehicle: means a passenger motor vehicle that satisfies either of the following:

- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.

- Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. - public agency: means a local or state agency given the responsibility by statute or ordinance for the removal, storage, and disposal of abandoned vehicles. See Indiana Code 9-22-1-3
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
- storage yard: means a storage facility or a towing service used for the removal and storage of abandoned vehicles or parts. See Indiana Code 9-22-1-3.5
