Terms Used In Indiana Code 20-23-12-3
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- school corporation: means a school corporation that was designated as a distressed political subdivision in 2017 under Indiana Code 20-23-12-2
Sec. 3. The emergency manager appointed by the distressed unit appeal board under IC 6-1.1-20.3 shall act as the governing body of the school corporation and has the powers set forth in IC 6-1.1-20.3-8.5, including the powers and duties of the governing body of the school corporation until the school corporation’s status as a distressed political subdivision is terminated under IC 6-1.1-20.3-13(b).
