Sec. 1. (a) This chapter applies to an action brought to recover damages for:

(1) personal injuries;

Terms Used In Indiana Code 34-44-2-1

  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Property: includes personal and real property. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
(2) wrongful death; or

(3) property damage.

     (b) This chapter does not apply to actions in which there is more than one (1) defendant.
