- Abstract of judgment: In a federal criminal proceeding, A certification from a U.S. District Court clerk that a judgment of restitution was entered against the defendant owing to the victim. If the defendant inherits, owns, or sells real property or holdings, these assets can then be attached at the state and local levels as well.
- Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Bailiff: a court officer who enforces the rules of behavior in courtrooms.
- Bequest: Property gifted by will.
- Broker: means a person lawfully engaged in the business of effecting transactions in securities or commodities for his or her own account or for the account of others. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Chief judge: The judge who has primary responsibility for the administration of a court but also decides cases; chief judges are determined by seniority.
- Conservator: means a person appointed or qualified by a court to act as general, limited or temporary guardian of a minor"s property or any other person legally authorized to perform substantially the same functions. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Court: means the district court. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Court reporter: A person who makes a word-for-word record of what is said in court and produces a transcript of the proceedings upon request.
- Custodial property: means :
(a) Any interest in property transferred to a custodian in a manner prescribed in this chapter; and
(b) The income from and the proceeds of that interest in property. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Custodian: means a person so designated in a manner prescribed in this chapter. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Embezzlement: In most states, embezzlement is defined as theft/larceny of assets (money or property) by a person in a position of trust or responsibility over those assets. Embezzlement typically occurs in the employment and corporate settings. Source: OCC
- Financial institution: means a bank, trust company, savings institution or credit union chartered and supervised under federal law or the laws of a state. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Hearsay: Statements by a witness who did not see or hear the incident in question but heard about it from someone else. Hearsay is usually not admissible as evidence in court.
- Impeachment: (1) The process of calling something into question, as in "impeaching the testimony of a witness." (2) The constitutional process whereby the House of Representatives may "impeach" (accuse of misconduct) high officers of the federal government for trial in the Senate.
- Lawsuit: A legal action started by a plaintiff against a defendant based on a complaint that the defendant failed to perform a legal duty, resulting in harm to the plaintiff.
- Legal representative: means a personal representative or conservator. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Minor: means a person who has not attained the age of 18 years. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Person: means any natural person, corporation, organization or other legal entity. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Personal representative: means an executor, administrator, successor personal representative or special administrator of a decedent"s estate or any other person legally authorized to perform substantially the same functions. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Plea agreement: An arrangement between the prosecutor, the defense attorney, and the defendant in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty in exchange for special considerations. Source:
- Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
- Probation officers: Screen applicants for pretrial release and monitor convicted offenders released under court supervision.
- State: means any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or any territory or possession subject to the legislative authority of the United States. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Transfer: means a transaction which creates custodial property in a manner prescribed in this chapter. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Transferor: means a person who makes a transfer in a manner prescribed in this chapter. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
- Trust company: means a financial institution, corporation or other legal entity authorized to exercise general trust powers. See Nevada Revised Statutes 167.020
