A summons shall be served with the complaint as in civil actions and shall contain a direction that the defendant appear and answer the complaint within 30 days after service of the summons and complaint, and a further direction that unless the defendant so appears and answers, the plaintiff will be entitled to a judgment of condemnation by default.

  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Judgment: means the judgment determining the right to condemn property and fixing the amount of compensation to be paid by the plaintiff. See Nevada Revised Statutes 37.009
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
