Terms Used In Florida Statutes 585.50

  • Garbage: means all refuse matter, animal or vegetable, byproducts of a restaurant, kitchen, or slaughterhouse; and shall include every accumulation of animal, fruit, or vegetable matter, liquid, or otherwise. See Florida Statutes 585.01
  • person: includes individuals, children, firms, associations, joint adventures, partnerships, estates, trusts, business trusts, syndicates, fiduciaries, corporations, and all other groups or combinations. See Florida Statutes 1.01
It shall be unlawful for any person to feed garbage to animals unless such garbage has been heated, cooked, treated, or processed under such temperature, pressure, process, or method, and for such a period of time, as is necessary to render the same free of any contagious, infectious, or communicable disease which might affect either the animals of this state or the citizens of this state. The department is authorized to promulgate rules covering the method of heating, cooking, treating, or processing, and to prescribe the temperature and time for such heating, cooking, treating, and processing as may be determined by scientific research. The requirements of ss. 585.48585.59 shall not apply to an individual who feeds her or his own animals only the garbage from her or his own household.
