Virginia Code 24.2-1017: Penalties when not specifically provided elsewhere

Any conduct made unlawful by this title, for which no punishment has been otherwise provided, shall be a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Under the Virginia Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
Class 1 misdemeanor	up to 12 months	up to $2,500
