A.(1) Except as provided in Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, effective July 1, 2006, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at thirty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2007, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys, throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2008, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys, throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2020, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty-seven thousand five hundred dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2021, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at fifty thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Any increase in salary shall be subject to an appropriation for that purpose.
(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 16:51(A)(19), (23), (32), and (38) to the contrary, the district attorney for the parish of Orleans and the Nineteenth, Twenty-Third, and the Thirty-Second Judicial Districts may reallocate by combining or dividing the total amount fixed in Paragraph (1) of this Subsection to pay the salaries of any of his other assistant district attorneys in any lawful manner he deems appropriate. The district attorney shall certify to the state treasurer the amount of the annual salary payable upon warrant for each of his assistant district attorneys provided for in La. Rev. Stat. 16:51(A)(19), (23), (32), and (38).
B. The provisions of this Section shall not be construed to repeal, supersede or affect any existing law or laws or provisions of any statutes which have been enacted or may be enacted by the legislature fixing the compensation to be paid the assistant district attorneys throughout the state by the governing authorities of the several parishes of the state. Any such compensation paid by the governing authorities of the several parishes of the state shall be in addition to the sum which the state treasurer is required to pay under the provisions of this Section.
