Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1134

  • Board of Trustees: means the board provided to administer the retirement system. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1002
  • Employee: means any person legally occupying a position as a school bus driver who actually renders a service by driving a school bus during the full time of his employment, a school janitor, a school custodian, a school maintenance employee, school bus aide, monitor or attendant, or other regular school employee who actually works on a school bus helping with the transportation of school children, and who is a legal employee of a parish or city school board of the state of Louisiana, and shall include the employees of this system.   • Member: means any school employee, as defined in Paragraph (13) of this Section, as provided in Part II of this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1002
  • Prior service: means service rendered prior to July 1, 1947, for which credit is allowable under Part III of this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1002
  • Retirement: means withdrawal from active service with a retirement allowance granted under the provisions of this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1002

A.  Upon verification of the statements of service, the board of trustees shall issue prior service certificates certifying to each member the length of service rendered prior to the date of the establishment of the retirement system, with which he is credited on the basis of his statement of service.  So long as membership continues, a prior service certificate shall be final and conclusive for retirement purposes as to such service.  Provided, that any member may, within one year from the date of issuance or modification of such certificate, request the board of trustees to modify or correct his prior service certificate.  

B.  When membership ceases, such prior service certificate shall become void.  Should the employee again become a member, he shall enter the system as an employee not entitled to prior service credit except as provided in La. Rev. Stat. 17:916*.
