- Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.
The court shall charge the jury that if it acquits a defendant on account of a plea of insanity it shall state that the defendant was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
