- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- invention: means invention or discovery. See 35 USC 100
- Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
- Mortgagee: The person to whom property is mortgaged and who has loaned the money.
- officer: includes any person authorized by law to perform the duties of the office. See 1 USC 1
- patentee: includes not only the patentee to whom the patent was issued but also the successors in title to the patentee. See 35 USC 100
- Personal property: All property that is not real property.
- writing: includes printing and typewriting and reproductions of visual symbols by photographing, multigraphing, mimeographing, manifolding, or otherwise. See 1 USC 1
