Terms Used In U.S. Code > Title 42 > Chapter 163 > Subchapter III > Part A - Preliminary Matters
- Commission: means the United States Sentencing Commission. See 28 USC 998
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Sentencing guidelines: A set of rules and principles established by the United States Sentencing Commission that trial judges use to determine the sentence for a convicted defendant. Source: U.S. Courts
