Terms Used In Alabama Code 15-8-22
- Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
When a statute creating or defining an offense uses special or particular terms, an indictment on it may use the general term which, in common language, embraces the special term.
