There is hereby created within Cherokee County the permanent office of license commissioner. The duties and responsibilities of the office shall be performed by the Revenue Commissioner of Cherokee County as herein provided. The county commission shall furnish the license commissioner with suitable quarters and provide the necessary forms, books, stationery, records, equipment, and supplies, except such stationery, forms, and supplies as are furnished pursuant to law by the state Department of Finance or the state Comptroller. The county commission shall ensure that the office has sufficient help and shall provide clerks and other assistants for the office as shall be necessary, from time to time, for the proper and efficient performance of the duties of the office. The license commissioner is hereby authorized to employ the clerks and other assistants, and to fix their compensation; however, the number and compensation of clerks and other assistants shall be subject to the approval of the county commission. The compensation of the clerks and assistants shall be paid biweekly out of the general fund of the county in the same manner as other county employees are paid. The duties of the license commissioner shall not include the renewal of driver licenses or the issuance or renewal of business, hunting, or fishing licenses.
