(a) Effective beginning the next term of office of the coroner in January 2023, the Coroner of Madison County shall receive an annual salary of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000). The salary shall be paid from the general fund of the county and shall be paid in the same manner as county employees are paid. In addition, the coroner shall be entitled to participate in the county health insurance plan and receive any other benefits to the same extent, under the same conditions, in the same manner as county employees and the coroner shall be entitled to receive uniform increases in compensation, such as cost-of-living raises, in the same amount as uniform increases in compensation granted equally to county employees by the county commission.

Terms Used In Alabama Code 45-45-60.01

  • year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
(b) The salary and benefits provided in subsection (a) shall be the total compensation of the coroner and shall be in lieu of any other compensation or fees, including any compensation provided in subdivision (1) of Section 45-45-11, Code of Alabama 1975, except for actual and verified expenses as provided in subsection (c).
(c) In addition to the compensation provided in subsection (a), the coroner shall be entitled to be reimbursed for actual and verified expenses incurred for the operation of the office of coroner and other expenses in the performance of the duties of the office, not to exceed fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) per year.
