- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association, organization, business trust, or society, as well as a natural person. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
The court may appoint as guardian any adult whose appointment would be in the best interests of the minor and is consistent with a priority given to an adult family member. The court shall appoint a person nominated by the minor, if the minor is 14 years of age or older, unless the court finds the appointment contrary to the best interests of the minor. In this section, “adult family member” has the meaning given in Alaska Stat. § 47.10.990.
