- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Public defender: Represent defendants who can't afford an attorney in criminal matters.
An individual who is the respondent in proceedings under Alaska Stat. § 18.15.375(e) or 18.15.385 has the right to be represented by counsel in the proceedings. If the individual cannot afford an attorney, the court shall direct the Public Defender Agency to provide an attorney. The court may, on its own motion or upon request of the individual’s attorney or a party, direct the office of public advocacy to provide a guardian ad litem for the individual.
