(a) The council shall establish and maintain police training programs, probation and parole officer training programs, and correctional training programs through those agencies and institutions that the council considers appropriate.

Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 18.65.230

  • person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association, organization, business trust, or society, as well as a natural person. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • state: means the State of Alaska unless applied to the different parts of the United States and in the latter case it includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
(b) To determine a person‘s qualification for appointment as a police officer under Alaska Stat. § 18.65.240, each person who applies for admittance to a basic program of police training established under this section shall submit to the council the person’s fingerprints along with the fee established in Alaska Stat. § 12.62.160 unless the person’s fingerprints were previously submitted by the person’s prospective employer. The Department of Public Safety shall conduct a state criminal history record check and may submit the person’s fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to obtain a national criminal history record check of the person under Alaska Stat. § 12.62.400 for the purpose of evaluating the person’s qualifications for appointment as a police officer under Alaska Stat. § 18.65.240.
