(a) Duplicate copies of legal process against an insurer for whom the director is attorney under Alaska Stat. § 21.09.180 shall be served upon the director, or upon a deputy of the director or other person in charge of the office during the absence of the director. At the time of service the plaintiff shall pay to the director a fee set under Alaska Stat. § 21.06.250, taxable as costs in the action. Upon receiving service the director shall promptly forward a copy by certified mail with return receipt requested to the person last designated by the insurer to receive it.

(b) Process served upon the director and the copy forwarded as provided in this section constitutes service upon the insurer.
