(a) The selection of grant, lieu and indemnity land shall conform to this chapter and the policy, orders and regulations adopted by the commissioner. The commissioner shall give preference of selection to the land which will provide the maximum benefits to the people of the state.

Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 38.05.290

  • commissioner: means the commissioner of natural resources. See Alaska Statutes 38.05.965
  • land: means all land, including shoreland, tideland , and submerged land, or resources belonging to or acquired by the state. See Alaska Statutes 38.05.965
  • lieu and indemnity land: means land which the state is entitled to select under the provisions of the Act of March 4, 1915, 38 Stat. See Alaska Statutes 38.05.965
  • state: means the State of Alaska unless applied to the different parts of the United States and in the latter case it includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
(b) Consistent with the best interests of the state, in the selection of general grant land it is the policy of the state to make available the maximum land area from which municipalities may fulfill land entitlements under Alaska Stat. Chapter 29.65 or former Alaska Stat. § 29.18.201 – 29.18.213.
