Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 44.12.390
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association, organization, business trust, or society, as well as a natural person. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
The provisions of Alaska Stat. § 44.12.300 – 44.12.390 are independent and severable, and if any provision of Alaska Stat. § 44.12.300 – 44.12.390, or the applicability of any provision to any person or circumstance, shall be held to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder of Alaska Stat. § 44.12.300 – 44.12.390 shall not be affected and shall be given effect to the fullest extent practicable.
