(a) If the department has placed a child in a foster home, the department shall, no less often than once quarterly, make available training that will assist the foster parent or parents in providing care that will meet the needs of the child placed in the home and the requirements established by the department in regulation.

(b) If the department determines that it is in the best interests of a child in the custody of the department to place the child with an adult family member who does not have a foster care home license under Alaska Stat. Chapter 47.32, the department shall assist the adult family member in obtaining a license, including assisting the adult family member with obtaining any variances necessary to obtain the license, so that the family member is eligible for payments under Alaska Stat. § 47.14.100 (b) and (d).
