A. A person operating a vehicle transporting an explosive on a highway shall comply at all times with the following provisions:

Terms Used In Arizona Laws 28-962

  • Director: means the director of the department of transportation. See Arizona Laws 28-101
  • Explosives: means any chemical compound, mixture or device that is commonly used or intended for the purpose of producing an explosion and that is defined in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 173. See Arizona Laws 28-601
  • highway: means the entire width between the boundary lines of every way if a part of the way is open to the use of the public for purposes of vehicular travel. See Arizona Laws 28-101
  • Person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or society, as well as a natural person. See Arizona Laws 1-215

1. The vehicle shall be placarded in accordance with the placarding requirements specified in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 172.

2. The vehicle shall be equipped with a fire extinguisher as required in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 393.

B. The director shall adopt additional rules governing the transportation of explosives and other dangerous articles by vehicles on the highways as the director deems advisable for the protection of the public.
