A. A hospital or a health professional who is working in a hospital that is not within fifty miles of a twenty-four-hour pharmacy, when discharging a patient with an acute illness or injury after regular pharmacy business hours, may dispense a twelve-hour supply of a schedule II controlled substance that is an opioid to the patient.

- Health professional: means a person who is certified or licensed pursuant to chapter 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 15. See Arizona Laws 32-3201
- Person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or society, as well as a natural person. See Arizona Laws 1-215
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Arizona Laws 1-215
B. For the purposes of this section, "health professional" means a person who is licensed pursuant to chapter 7, 13, 15, 17 or 25 of this title and who holds a valid United States drug enforcement administration registration number.
