Where the state is a defendant, the summons and the complaint shall be served on the Attorney General.

Terms Used In California Code of Civil Procedure 1250.140

  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • State: includes the District of Columbia and the territories when applied to the different parts of the United States, and the words "United States" may include the district and territories. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
