This part applies to all corporations for the prevention of cruelty to animals, whether formed prior to or after May 20, 1905, but does not apply to any association, society, or corporation that uses or specifies a name or style the same, or substantially the same, as that of any previously existing society or corporation in this state organized for a like purpose.

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Education Code 77
