- Bequest: Property gifted by will.
- County: includes city and county. See California Government Code 19
- Devise: To gift property by will.
- Escrow: Money given to a third party to be held for payment until certain conditions are met.
- Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. Source: OCC
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Licensed adjuster: means a person licensed by the bureau for adjusting lamps in licensed lamp adjusting stations or for adjusting brakes in licensed brake adjusting stations. See California Business and Professions Code 9888.1
- Notice: includes all papers and orders required to be served in any proceedings before any court, board, or officer, or when required by law to be served independently of such proceeding. See California Government Code 26660
- person: includes any individual, firm, partnership, general corporation, professional corporation, or limited liability partnership, as authorized by the Corporations Code. See California Business and Professions Code 5535
- Person: includes any person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, company, limited liability company, syndicate, estate, trust, business trust, or organization of any kind. See California Financial Code 18
- Secretary: means the Secretary of Food and Agriculture. See California Food and Agricultural Code 35
- Station: means a lamp adjusting station or a brake adjusting station. See California Business and Professions Code 9888.1
- Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Food and Agricultural Code 49
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
