The first week in January, commencing in 1995, is hereby designated as Braille Literacy Week. The purpose of California’s Braille Literacy Week shall be to heighten citizen awareness of the great importance of braille and the great need to continue to provide braille reading materials for blind and visually impaired persons. The Governor and the Legislature shall annually issue proclamations and resolutions as they deem appropriate drawing public attention to this week in order to encourage the private sector and state and local agencies to initiate activities recognizing blind and visually impaired persons.
