  • aircraft: means any contrivance used for navigation of, or flight in, the air. See California Public Utilities Code 5501
  • Allegation: something that someone says happened.
  • Annual report: means the report required of each producer pursuant to Section 72143. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Assessee: means the person to whom property or a tax is assessed. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 23
  • Assessing district: means any Chino Basin district which levies a production assessment under this chapter. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
  • Baseline: Projection of the receipts, outlays, and other budget amounts that would ensue in the future without any change in existing policy. Baseline projections are used to gauge the extent to which proposed legislation, if enacted into law, would alter current spending and revenue levels.
  • board: means the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 20
  • Board: means the State Water Resources Control Board. See California Water Code 14052
  • Board: means the board of directors of the primary district. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Chino Basin: means the groundwater basin situated within the Counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino and which is described in the complaint for general adjudication of water rights in the matter of Chino Basin Municipal Water District v. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Chino Basin districts: means the primary district, the Western Municipal Water District of Riverside County, and the Pomona Valley Municipal Water District, the boundaries of each of which incorporate land overlying, in part, the Chino Basin. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • City: includes city and county and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Public Utilities Code 19
  • commercial air operator: means any person owning, controlling, operating, renting, or managing aircraft for any commercial purpose for compensation. See California Public Utilities Code 5500
  • Commission: means the Public Utilities Commission created by §. See California Public Utilities Code 20
  • Committee: means the Clean Water and Water Reclamation Finance Committee created by Section 14067. See California Water Code 14052
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • County: includes city and county. See California Water Code 14
  • County: includes city and county. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 15
  • County: includes city and county. See California Public Utilities Code 18
  • Electronic funds transfer: The transfer of money between accounts by consumer electronic systems-such as automated teller machines (ATMs) and electronic payment of bills-rather than by check or cash. (Wire transfers, checks, drafts, and paper instruments do not fall into this category.) Source: OCC
  • Executor: A male person named in a will to carry out the decedent
  • Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a set of United States statutes added as Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Its purpose is to ensure ethical practices in the collection of consumer debts and to provide consumers with an avenue for disputing and obtaining validation of debt information in order to ensure the information's accuracy. It is often used in conjunction with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Source: OCC
  • federal act: means the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (33 U. See California Water Code 14052
  • Fiscal year: means the period July 1 through June 30, following. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Fund: means the 1988 Clean Water and Water Reclamation Fund created pursuant to Section 14055. See California Water Code 14052
  • Fund: means the San Joaquin Valley Drainage Relief Fund. See California Water Code 14902
  • Grantor: The person who establishes a trust and places property into it.
  • Groundwater: means water beneath the surface of the ground and within the zone of saturation. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Guarantor: A party who agrees to be responsible for the payment of another party's debts should that party default. Source: OCC
  • Joint tenancy: A form of property ownership in which two or more parties hold an undivided interest in the same property that was conveyed under the same instrument at the same time. A joint tenant can sell his (her) interest but not dispose of it by will. Upon the death of a joint tenant, his (her) undivided interest is distributed among the surviving joint tenants.
  • newspaper: means a newspaper of general circulation. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 36.5
  • Original bill: A bill which is drafted by a committee. It is introduced by the committee or subcommittee chairman after the committee votes to report it.
  • Person: means any public agency or public corporation, or any private corporation, firm, partnership, limited liability company, individual, or group of individuals, excluding the State of California and its agencies. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Person: means any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business trust, corporation, limited liability company, or company. See California Water Code 19
  • person: means any individual, firm, partnership, private, municipal or public corporation, limited liability company, company, association, joint stock association, trustee, receiver, assignee, or other similar representative. See California Public Utilities Code 5502
  • Person: includes any person, firm, partnership, general partner of a partnership, limited liability company, registered limited liability partnership, foreign limited liability partnership, association, corporation, company, syndicate, estate, trust, business trust, or organization of any kind. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 19
  • plan: means the management plan for agricultural subsurface drainage and related problems as described in the final report of the San Joaquin Valley Drainage Program, dated September 1990, described in subdivision (a) of Section 14901. See California Water Code 14902
  • Precedent: A court decision in an earlier case with facts and law similar to a dispute currently before a court. Precedent will ordinarily govern the decision of a later similar case, unless a party can show that it was wrongly decided or that it differed in some significant way.
  • Primary district: means the Chino Basin Municipal Water District, which overlies a majority of the Chino Basin. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Producer: means any person who produces groundwater within the Chino Basin, excluding minimal pumpers. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Program: means the San Joaquin Valley Drainage Relief Program. See California Water Code 14902
  • Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.
  • Retirement land: means the lands recommended for retirement in the management plan, other irrigated agricultural lands characterized by low productivity, poor drainability, and high levels of dissolved selenium in shallow groundwater, or lands that contribute to agricultural subsurface drainage problems. See California Water Code 14902
  • Secretary: means the secretary of the primary district. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Public Utilities Code 17
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Water Code 18
  • State board: means the State Water Resources Control Board. See California Water Code 13050
  • Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Public Utilities Code 10

  • Supplemental water: means water from the State Water Resources Development System. See California Water Code 72140.1
  • Tenancy in common: A type of property ownership in which two or more individuals have an undivided interest in property. At the death of one tenant in common, his (her) fractional percentage of ownership in the property passes to the decedent
  • United States: means the United States of America, and in relation to any particular matter includes the officers, agents, employees, agencies, or instrumentalities authorized to act in relation thereto. See California Water Code 20
  • year: means a calendar year unless the context indicates a contrary meaning. See California Water Code 72140.1
