Connecticut General Statutes 16-244b – Electric customers to choose electric suppliers. Phase-in of electric deregulation
All customers of electric distribution companies, as defined in section 16-1, shall have the opportunity to purchase electric generation services from their choice of electric suppliers, as defined in section 16-1, in a competitive generation market in accordance with the schedule provided in this section. As of July 1, 2000, all customers shall have the opportunity to choose an electric supplier. On and after January 1, 2000, electric generation services shall be provided in accordance with section 16-244c to any customer who has not chosen an electric supplier or has declined, failed or been unable to enter into or maintain a contract for electric generation services with an electric supplier. The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority may adopt regulations, in accordance with chapter 54, to implement the phase-in schedule provided in this section.
Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 16-244b
- Authority: means the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority and "department" means the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. See Connecticut General Statutes 16-1
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Electric generation services: means electric energy, electric capacity or generation-related services. See Connecticut General Statutes 16-1
- Electric supplier: means any person, including an electric aggregator or participating municipal electric utility that is licensed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority in accordance with section 16-245, that provides electric generation services to end use customers in the state using the transmission or distribution facilities of an electric distribution company, regardless of whether or not such person takes title to such generation services, but does not include: (A) A municipal electric utility established under chapter 101, other than a participating municipal electric utility.
