The provisions of sections 36a-655 to 36a-665, inclusive, shall not apply to the following: (1) Any attorney admitted to the practice of law in this state who engages in debt adjustment as an ancillary matter to such attorney’s representation of a client; (2) any bank, fiduciary or financing or lending institution authorized to transact business in this state or any other state, which performs debt adjustment in the regular course of its principal business; (3) any title insurance or abstract company authorized to transact business in this state or any other state, while doing an escrow business; and (4) any person acting pursuant to any law of this state or of the United States or acting under the order of a court.
Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 36a-663
- Bank: means a Connecticut bank or a federal bank. See Connecticut General Statutes 36a-2
- Client: means a beneficiary of a trust for whom the Connecticut bank acts as trustee, a person for whom the Connecticut bank acts as agent, custodian or bailee, or other person to whom a Connecticut bank owes a duty or obligation under a trust or other account administered by such Connecticut bank, regardless of whether such Connecticut bank owes a fiduciary duty to the person. - Company: means any corporation, joint stock company, trust, association, partnership, limited partnership, unincorporated organization, limited liability company or similar organization, but does not include (A) any corporation the majority of the shares of which are owned by the United States or by any state, or (B) any trust which by its terms shall terminate within twenty-five years or not later than twenty-one years and ten months after the death of beneficiaries living on the effective date of the trust. - Escrow: Money given to a third party to be held for payment until certain conditions are met.
- Person: means an individual, company, including a company described in subparagraphs (A) and (B) of subdivision (12) of this section, or any other legal entity, including a federal, state or municipal government or agency or any political subdivision thereof. See Connecticut General Statutes 36a-2
- State: means any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, any territory of the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the trust territory of the Pacific Islands, the Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands. See Connecticut General Statutes 36a-2
