Terms Used In Delaware Code > Title 10 > Chapter 89 - Jurors, Witnesses and Interpreters
- Child: shall mean a person who has not yet reached their eighteenth birthday. See Delaware Code Title 11 Sec. 5132
- Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.
- Department: means the Department of Correction. See Delaware Code Title 11 Sec. 6503
- Juror: A person who is on the jury.
- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
- Testify: Answer questions in court.
- Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
- Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
