Terms Used In Florida Statutes 553.7921

  • Local enforcement agency: means an agency of local government, a local school board, a community college board of trustees, or a university board of trustees in the State University System with jurisdiction to make inspections of buildings and to enforce the codes which establish standards for design, construction, erection, alteration, repair, modification, or demolition of public or private buildings, structures, or facilities. See Florida Statutes 553.71

(1) A contractor must file a Uniform Fire Alarm Permit Application as provided in subsection (3) with the local enforcement agency and must receive the fire alarm permit before installing or replacing a fire alarm, if the local enforcement agency requires a plan review for the installation or replacement.
(2) If the local enforcement agency requires a fire alarm permit in order to repair an existing alarm system that was previously permitted by the local enforcement agency, a contractor must file a Uniform Fire Alarm Permit Application as provided in subsection (3) but may begin work after filing a Uniform Fire Alarm Permit Application as provided in subsection (3). A fire alarm repaired pursuant to this subsection may not be considered compliant with applicable codes and standards until the required permit is issued and the local enforcement agency approves the repair.
(3) A Uniform Fire Alarm Permit Application must be submitted with any drawing, plan, and supporting documentation required by a local enforcement agency for a project for which a plan review or fire alarm permit is required under subsection (1). The application may be submitted electronically or by facsimile and must be signed by the owner, or the owner’s authorized representative, and the contractor, or the contractor’s agent.
