Terms Used In Florida Statutes 631.712

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
The purpose of this part is to protect policyowners, insureds, beneficiaries, annuitants, payees, and assignees of life insurance policies, health insurance policies, annuity contracts, and supplemental contracts, subject to certain limitations, against the failure of an insurer issuing such policies or contracts to perform its contractual obligations due to its impairment or insolvency; and this part shall be liberally construed to carry out its purpose.
