- Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
When a continuance is granted to one or more of several defendants, the court may proceed with the trial of the defendants who have not been granted a continuance.
