- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- person: includes individuals, children, firms, associations, joint adventures, partnerships, estates, trusts, business trusts, syndicates, fiduciaries, corporations, and all other groups or combinations. See Florida Statutes 1.01
(1) Upon conviction of a felony as defined in Fla. Const. Art. X, § 10, the civil rights of the person convicted shall be suspended in Florida until such rights are restored by a full pardon, conditional pardon, or restoration of civil rights granted pursuant to Fla. Const. Art. IV, § 8. Notwithstanding the suspension of civil rights, such a convicted person may obtain restoration of his or her voting rights pursuant to Fla. Const. Art. VI, § 4 and s. 98.0751.
(2) This section shall not be construed to deny a convicted felon access to the courts, as guaranteed by Fla. Const. Art. I, § 21, until restoration of her or his civil rights.
