(1) Each circuit shall have a juvenile justice circuit advisory board. The board shall work with the chief probation officer of the circuit to use data to inform policy and practice which improves the juvenile justice continuum.
(2) Each juvenile justice circuit advisory board shall have a minimum of 14 members. The membership of each board must reflect:

(a) The circuit’s geography and population distribution.

Terms Used In Florida Statutes 985.664

  • Chief judge: The judge who has primary responsibility for the administration of a court but also decides cases; chief judges are determined by seniority.
  • Circuit: means any of the 20 judicial circuits as set forth in…. See Florida Statutes 985.03
  • Department: means the Department of Juvenile Justice. See Florida Statutes 985.03
  • Family: means a collective of persons, consisting of a child and a parent, guardian, adult custodian, or adult relative, in which:
    (a) The persons reside in the same house or living unit; or
    (b) The parent, guardian, adult custodian, or adult relative has a legal responsibility by blood, marriage, or court order to support or care for the child. See Florida Statutes 985.03
  • Juvenile justice continuum: includes , but is not limited to, prevention programs and services designed for the purpose of preventing or reducing delinquent acts, including criminal activity by criminal gangs, and juvenile arrests, as well as programs and services targeted at children who have committed delinquent acts, and children who have previously been committed to residential treatment programs for delinquents.   • Parent: means a woman who gives birth to a child and a man whose consent to the adoption of the child would be required under…. See Florida Statutes 985.03
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • Probation: means the legal status of probation created by law and court order in cases involving a child who has been found to have committed a delinquent act. See Florida Statutes 985.03
  • Public defender: Represent defendants who can't afford an attorney in criminal matters.
  • youth: means any person under the age of 18 or any person who is alleged to have committed a violation of law occurring prior to the time that person reached the age of 18 years. See Florida Statutes 985.03
(b) Diversity in the judicial circuit.
(3) Each member of the juvenile justice circuit advisory board must be approved by the chief probation officer of the circuit, except those members listed in paragraphs (a)-(c) and (e)-(h). Each juvenile justice circuit advisory board must include as members:

(a) The state attorney or his or her designee.
(b) The public defender or his or her designee.
(c) The chief judge or his or her designee.
(d) A representative of the corresponding circuit or regional entity of the Department of Children and Families.
(e) The sheriff or the sheriff’s designee from each county in the circuit.
(f) A police chief or his or her designee from each county in the circuit.
(g) A county commissioner or his or her designee from each county in the circuit.
(h) The superintendent of each school district in the circuit or his or her designee.
(i) A representative from the workforce organization of each county in the circuit.
(j) A representative of the business community.
(k) A youth representative who has had an experience with the juvenile justice system and is not older than 21 years of age.
(l) A representative of the faith community.
(m) A health services representative who specializes in mental health care, victim-service programs, or victims of crimes.
(n) A parent or family member of a youth who has been involved with the juvenile justice system.
(o) Up to three representatives from the community.
(4) The chief probation officer in each circuit shall serve as the chair of the juvenile justice circuit advisory board for that circuit.
