- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
The state attorney shall, on agreeing to any compromise or settlement, report the same to the Department of Financial Services for its approval; and, on its approving such compromise or settlement, the state attorney, on a compliance with the terms of such compromise or settlement shall give a receipt to the collector of revenue, sheriff or other officer, or the sureties on their bonds, or to the legal representatives, which receipt shall be a discharge from all judgments, claims or demands of the state against such collector of revenue or other officer, or the sureties on their bonds.
