Failure to give notice of loss covered by marine or fire insurance within any period provided for by the policy or otherwise, shall not exonerate the insurer if the notice is given within a reasonable time after the insured loss has or should havefirst knowledge of said loss. In all other classes of insurance, the insured shall have at least twenty (20) days after the event within which to give notice of loss. No requirement of notice within a lesser period is valid.
