Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 261-2
- Aeronautics: means the science and art of flight, including but not limited to transportation by aircraft; the operation, construction, repair, or maintenance of aircraft, aircraft power plants and accessories, including the repair, packing, and maintenance of parachutes; the design, establishment, construction, extension, operation, improvement, repair, or maintenance of airports, or other air navigation facilities; and instruction in flying or ground subjects pertaining thereto. - Department: means the department of transportation. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 261-1
The department of transportation shall have general supervision over aeronautics within the State. It shall encourage, foster, and assist in the development of aeronautics in the State and encourage the establishment of airports and air navigation facilities. It shall cooperate with and assist the federal government and other persons in the development of aeronautics and shall seek to coordinate the aeronautical activities of the State with those of the federal government. Municipalities may cooperate with the department in the development of aeronautics and aeronautics facilities in the State.
