Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 353G-4
- Assessment: means an ongoing process through which a substance abuse professional collaborates with a client and other persons to gather and interpret information necessary for planning treatment and evaluating the client's progress. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 353G-2
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Drug or alcohol dependent: means in a state of physical or psychological dependence, or both, arising from the use of a controlled substance or alcohol on a continuous basis that is characterized by behavioral and other responses, including but not limited to a strong compulsion to take the controlled substance or alcohol on a recurring basis, regardless of consequence, in order to experience its psychotropic effects or to avoid the discomfort of its absence. - drug test: means a test conducted in a medically safe and appropriate manner to determine the presence or absence of alcohol or controlled substance metabolites, or to determine the recent or historical use of alcohol or a controlled substance by the subject of the test. - Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
