Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 533-11

  • Dower: A widow
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.

A woman may also be barred of her dower in the lands of her husband, by a jointure settled on her with her assent before her marriage; provided the jointure consists of an estate in lands, for the life of the wife at least, to take effect immediately on the death of her husband; her assent to the jointure being expressed, if she is of full age, by her becoming a party to the conveyance by which it is settled, and if she is under age, by her joining with her father or guardian in the conveyance.
