The department shall prepare and submit an annual report to the president of the senate and speaker of the house of representatives no later than twenty days prior to the convening of each regular session, beginning with the regular session of 2019, detailing for the prior fiscal year:

- Combined DNA Index System: means the FBI's program of support for criminal justice DNA databases as well as the software used to run these databases. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 844G-1
- county: includes the city and county of Honolulu. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 1-22
- Department: means the department of the attorney general. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 844G-1
- DNA: means deoxyribonucleic acid. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 844G-1
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
The report shall also be made available to the public on the department’s website.
