- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Employee: includes an individual employed by the State or a political subdivision of the State. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 378-91
- Employer: includes an agent of an employer or of the State or a political subdivision thereof, but does not include the United States. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 378-91
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
