Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 105 ILCS 5/2-3.8

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     To hear and determine all controversies arising under the school laws of the State, coming to it by appeal from a regional superintendent of schools.
