Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 20 ILCS 3430/2

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     The Department shall have jurisdiction and custody of, and shall maintain and operate, the Old State Capitol Complex and shall succeed to all rights, powers, duties and liabilities of the Department of Conservation under the “1961 Act” or under any lease or contract relating to the Old State Capitol Complex to which the Department of Conservation is a party.
