Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 225 ILCS 410/1-12

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14

     The Department may, without examination, grant a license under this Act to an applicant who is licensed or registered for or authorized to practice the same profession under the laws of another state or jurisdiction of the United States or of a foreign country upon filing of an application on forms provided by the Department, paying the required fee, and meeting such requirements as are established by rule. The Department may prescribe rules governing recognition of education and legal practice in another jurisdiction, requiring additional education, and determining when an examination may be required.
